Defence Policy Review
I have always believed that the north can play a bigger role in the defence of Canada.
The Defence Policy Review initiated by Minister of Defence, Hon. Harjit Sajjan, gives Canadians the opportunity to voice their opinions on how Canada can improve how it defends the nation, including the Arctic.
For years, I have advocated for an increased role for northerners in Search and Rescue (SAR) as well as providing opportunities for the aviation private sector to help improve current response times and overall service quality. The north can no longer continue to have DND SAR capabilities based far away in southern Canada.
I also believe that the Rangers should have an expanded role; marine capabilities would enable them to help with spill response, SAR, and overall defence.
